The story of Tartan

Hear from one of Aberdeen's legendary Kilt experts how tartan is a symbol of Scottish heritage and pride, originally serving both practical and cultural purposes. Historically, tartan was worn as a practical garment, known as a "plaid" or "great kilt," which could be wrapped around the body and used as a blanket or protection against the weather. Over time, tartan became a significant cultural symbol, especially during the 19th century when it was popularized by the Royal Family.

Peruse the different tartan patterns, learn about the differences between tartan and tweed and how traditional Highland dress is worn today. You'll be impressed by a range of colours, patterns and find out what a Sgian Dhu is?

The River Dee in Aberdeenshire is one of Scotland's most scenic and significant rivers, the Dee is a vital lifeline for the region, both environmentally and economically.

However, the Dee is perhaps most famous for its salmon population. It is one of Scotland's premier salmon rivers, attracting anglers from around the world.
