Machrie Stone Circles

North East 250

Scotland is famed for its stone circles and visitors to the Isle of Arran are in for a treat as there are remains to no fewer than six stone circles across the rugged land of Machrie Moor. Dating back over 4,500 years and thought to have replaced previous timber structures, only a fraction of the area has been excavated and many more secrets to the area's past are likely to lurk underground. With a mix of stone circles, standing stones and cairns, they are believed to have religious and ceremonial connections from the Bronze Age and Neolithic eras.
