Taste of Scotland
For those who only have one day to visit Aberdeen, this tour gives you an insight into what the region has to offer. With both a visit to Castles and Distillery Tour, this excursion will give you a taste of the Grampians.
Departs: Sat at 09:00 (Bookings must be made in advance)
From: The Wallace Monument in front of His Majesty's Theatre on Rosemount Street.
Duration: 7.5 hours
Stop 1: Aberdeen Beach
Aberdeen is "The Silver City by the Golden Sands", or so the old tourist brochures used to say. We are very lucky to have a beautiful and vibrant beach and leisure area just a stone's throw from the city centre. With a long sandy beach and convenient walkway the full length of the bay, it is an ideal location for watching the ships come into harbour, spotting the dolphins and sea birds as well as enjoy a breath of breezy North Sea air.
Stop 2: Glen Garioch Distillery
A visit to Glen Garioch Distillery will give you a taste of Scotland, our fabulous whisky! You will have the option to participate in a guided tour of the distillery where you'll learn more about the art of creating a perfect single malt whisky and the history of one of Aberdeenshire's historic distilleries. At the end of your tour you can participate in a guided tasting the Highland whisky produced at Glen Garioch.
Stop 3: East Aquhorties Stone Circle
One of Aberdeen's largest stone circles in on our route and it is a perfect opportunity to hear about some of Scotland's ancient history. East Aquhorthies Stone Circle is a recumbent stone circle – a type of circle only found in north-east Scotland. It has a large stone set on its side and flanked by two upright stones, usually on the south or south-west part of the circle.
Stop 4: Castle Fraser
Aberdeenshire has a wonderful collection of different castles, in fact we have more castles here per acre than anywhere else in Scotland!
Castle Fraser is one of our favourites and we will visit the wonderful grounds with its grand trees and the walled garden which is a mixture of vegetable, herbs and ornamental plants and flowers. The Castle is a unique experience as you'll wind your way up and down the spiral staircases, you can explore the different rooms which tell the stories of the Fraser family who inhabited the castle for hundreds of years and latterly of the Smiley family. The Fraser's of Castle Fraser have some interesting characters and you'll hear stories from different family members who lived in the castle as your tour the building.
