Located in the Cairngorms National Park the Highland Folk Museum near Newtonmore was used for filming the Clan MacKenzie rent collecting scenes. Set in breath taking scenery this open air museum stretches for one mile and depicts life in the Highlands through original and authentic replica buildings from the 1700’s to the 1950’s. The 18th century village is a genuine must see to experience life in the Highlands as Claire and Jamie would have known it in the early 1740’s.
No Outlander location tour would be complete without visiting Culloden Moor Battlefield and Visitor Centre near Inverness. Learn of the real events leading up to the battle and how the battle unfolded. Stand on the battle lines where Clan Fraser fought. See the Clan headstones marking the massed graves of the fallen including that of Clan Fraser.
Any Outlander fan will find a trip to Culloden a highly emotional experience leaving a lasting memory.
Nearby is Clava Cairns long thought to be the inspiration for Craigh na dun. These standing stones and cairns are believed to be nearly 6,000 years old and provide a unique and calming atmosphere.
This is a full day tour with lunch at Newtonmore if desired. Contact us for more information.
