Route to the shore at East Murkle

Marking the Durness end of the North Highland Way

In January 2024 we launched the North Highland Way at the eastern end. From Betty Hill to Durness to the western end of the route, we recce again. Visitors and locals alike are invited to join the founder of the North Highland Way on her travels.

The North Highland Way was launched in January 2024 with little acclaim. It was not required. This tour starts at Bettyhill, as we have the tour in April for the whole route.

The beach at Bettyhill is one of the best in Scotland, and you will get the opportunity to stay at a highly acclaimed campsite and also see some of the wonderful geology. You can purchase the North Highland Way, a Geological Perspective, from Amazon prior to your trip to make the best of it.

Friends of the North Highland Way

Enjoy a great day out exploring the north coast of Scotland on foot, mountain bike or on horseback. We can provide a passport to check into the churches along the route and help with great wildlife watching spots. There are in fact two routes, one along the coast and the other over A'Mhoine.

Opening times

This is self guided, so no opening times, but you will need to check the opening times of the various churches as they change constantly.
