Harry Potter's Highland Adventure
Our Harry Potter themed tour is a must for fans of J.K. Rowling’s tales of the boy who lived.
This suggested three day itinerary combines a generous dose of bewitching Scottish scenery with a dash of history, sprinkled with a selection of instantly recognisable filming locations across three magical days.
Day 1 – Home of Hogwarts. Departing from your choice of accommodation anywhere in the central belt and touring through the stunning Scottish border region and onto the rural northern English county of Northumberland to visit the imposing Castle Alnwick which was used for most internal scenes at Hogwarts. Onwards to Durham Cathedral, used for most external scenes of the school. Returning north of the border for an overnight stay in the historic city of Stirling sitting at the gateway to the Scottish highlands.
Day 2 – Wizarding World. Departing Stirling and touring through the legendary Loch Lomond national park of ‘Bonnie, bonnie banks’ fame into the Scottish highlands. Through the breath taking Glencoe, as famous for its unmistakable vistas as its tragic history and also the subject of many panoramic and iconic scenes from the Harry Potter series an on to the setting of Hagrid’s Hut in the Northern reaches of the Glen. Overlooked by Scotland's highest peak, we tour through Glen Nevis with a drive and short walk to Steall Falls, recognisable from the dragon scenes of the Tri-wizard tournament. Our trilogy of Glens is completed, arriving in Glenfinnan in time to see the steam train passing across the viaduct just like when Harry and Ron flew above it trying to catch up in their Ford Anglia. Finally, we visit Loch Eilt, the landscape setting for Hogwarts itself, recognisable also from the flight of the Hippogriff and home to the island site of the White Tomb, the final resting place of Albus Dumbledore. Overnighting in the lochside town of Fort William.
Day 3 – Harry and History. Departing Fort William via Loch Arkaig, the venue of the diving events of the tri-wizard tournament and travelling Eastwards to the county of Perthshire. Visiting the charming Victorian resort town of Pitlochry, the ancestral home of the Clan Murray; Blair Castle and a visit to Scotland’s answer to Harrods; House of Bruar. Returning to your chosen accommodation in the central belt and the conclusion of your tour.
This tour can be altered or extended to include further filming locations elsewhere in the UK such as Hogsmeade Station, the Malfoy Mansion and the venue for the Quidditch World Cup. As with all our tours, itineraries are specifically tailored to your requirements so locations can be incorporated into various different scenic and historic tours, please browse our other tours for ideas and inspiration and feel free to contact us anytime.
