Fife EuroTour

Free self-guided online tour of the Kingdom of Fife for cyclists and motorists

Visit our website to see a range of locations in Fife with historic and contemporary associations with other parts of Europe. Whether on two wheels or four, tour the places in any order, enjoy the tranquil rural scenery and the busy urban environments, and discover the many links with our continental neighbours.

The tour has no fixed itinerary. Just travel as you please and explore at your leisure:

  • Anstruther – visited by the remnants of the Spanish Armada
  • Burntisland - where a French poet committed lèse-majesté and a cairn marks a link with Norway
  • Cameron - where a German POW found peace of mind
  • Culross - with a historic trading association with The Netherlands
  • Cupar - where a Polish bugler maintained a custom from home
  • Crail - with the arrival nearby of a queen from France
  • Dunfermline - explore its many European connections in a local EuroWalk
  • Earlsferry - with a plaque expressing thanks to the local community from Polish paratroopers
  • Falkland - with historic royal links to France and Denmark and a more recent gift of gratitude from Polish paratroopers
  • Glenrothes – with the work of a sculptor born in what is now Estonia rising from the earth and German technology providing employment today
  •  Kirkcaldy - with a memorial to a wartime Polish massacre and a model of a 16th-century German city
  • Leven - where, nearby, Polish paratroopers trained for the drop at Arnhem
  • Pitscottie - where an intrepid Italian balloonist came out of the sky
  • St Andrews – with a wealth of European connections explored in a local EuroWalk and a memorial to an air crew from The Netherlands nearby
  • Wormit - where the Royal Norwegian Air Force was formed

If there are too many places to visit on one occasion, come back to Fife another time.

*The natural harbour at Fife Ness, near Crail, was the place of arrival in Scotland of Mary of Guise, who travelled from France to marry James V at St Andrews Cathedral in 1538.
