Mauldsheugh Wood is a community wildlife project based in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders helping to bring people together with nature. The family-friendly 20-acre woodland features a 1km accessible nature trail and plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities.

The 20-acre wood on the edge of the town is being nurtured as a place for everyone to have an opportunity to make the most of their time outdoors.
It features a 1km wheelchair-accessible nature trail and numerous wildlife viewing opportunities, including bird feeders and a wildlife pond.
The bird life of the wood includes great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, sparrowhawk, buzzard, tawny owl, long-tailed tit, wren, treecreeper, bullfinch, chiff chaff, blackcap and many more.
The wood is also home to mammals including foxes, badgers, roe deer and stoats and insect life including dragonflies and damselflies. Toads, newts and frogs can be found in and around the pond.
The nature trail features 25 information tables linked to a digital trail so that anyone with a mobile phone or tablet can access videos from the trail cameras that film the wildlife around the wood, along with bird song, quizzes and lots more information about the species that can be found in and around the wood.
The project is run by Go Wild Scotland Community Interest Company on land owned by the Philiphaugh Estate.
Wildlife rangers are often on hand to talk to visitors and there are regular community activities - including tree planting and nature clubs for children - which are advertised on the Mauldsheugh Wood and Go Wild Scotland Instagram and Facebook pages.
The nearest toilets are at the Selkirk Leisure Centre or in the nearby town centre.
Visitors can park at the Leisure Centre car park and walk back to the woods along the riverside paths, following the nature trail sign under the road bridge and into the wood.
