Multi-Grammy award winner Tim O’Brien joins forces with some old friends to present an evening of acoustic roots music.
An accomplished singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, O’Brien has travelled the world for the past 50 years performing his own mix of American folk, bluegrass, and Celtic sounds. Here, he’s accompanied by his partner, Jan Fabricius (Mandolin and Vocals), and celebrated Irish musicians, Seamie O’Dowd (Guitar, Fiddle, Bouzouki, Vocals) and Dermot Byrne (Accordion).
O’Dowd, from Sligo, and Byrne, from Donegal, grew up in musical families and went on to renown in the trad world thanks to their collaborations with Dervish (O’Dowd) and Altan (Byrne).
Raised in the East Yorkshire flatlands on the fringes of Hull, a sense of open space and movement flows through Katie Spencer’s music. Her songwriting, and most notably her guitar playing stems from a time when the steel-stringed instrument was truly finding its voice. Artists like Joni Mitchell and Michael Chapman influence her sound, bringing a warmth and idealism present in these early 70’s folk movements. Her second album The Edge of the Land, was highly praised for its song-craft and spell-binding musicianship, reaching \#14 in the Official Folk albums Chart.
