The Cruachan Court Orchestra's inaugral season continues with a Schubertiade! As winter draws in, we are celebrating the music of Franz Schubert with his ebullient 5th Symphony and the towering masterpiece that is his song cycle Winterreise (A Winter's Journey), in a new orchestration by our founder-conductor Callum Hüseyin.
Aleksi Koponen returns as barione soloist from his fabulous perfomance in our launch concert.
Named for the street on which founder-conductor Callum Hüseyin's grandparents lived on in Penicuik just outside of Edinburgh, in honour of their support and encouragement to him and in memory of shared listening together, the Cruachan Court Orchestra was started in 2024 as a place to bring together professional musicians in Scotland.
The orchestra does not receive grants, and runs on its own ticket sales as well as generous private contributions. We do this to remain self-sufficient: too many great ensembles have folded or downsized after a relied-upon public grant did not appear, and we don't want to risk that!
