Tucked away in a quiet position on the stunning Galloway Coast, The Vital Spark is a cosy wooden cabin with rest and relaxation at its heart, just moments from the shore. Set within its own grounds, the cabin features a tastefully furnished, open plan living/dining/kitchen area. This space is at its best with the French doors open wide, and the not-so-distant sound of the waves and birdsong filtering through. Two cosy bedrooms, one double with ensuite, and one single, along with a master bathroom, complete with bath, finish the space. If you enjoy dining alfresco, the outdoor space features a veranda, from which you can enjoy the beautiful coastal views, along with a BBQ and Firepit, allowing you to stay out long passed dark, if the mood takes you.
Located on the border of Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, there is of course lots to see passed dark in this area. On a clear night, thousands of stars, planets, and the Milky Way and, occasionally, the Northern Lights, can be seen with the naked eye. Or why not visit the nearby Dark Space Planetarium at Kirkcudbright and learn more about space exploration.
Kirkcudbright is also the region’s Artist Town, once home to Glasgow Boys George Henry and E.A Hornel, as well as Jessie M. King. Hornel’s home at Broughton House is now open to the public and offers guests a chance to see some of his work, as well as his beautiful, oriental inspired garden. The nearby town of Castle Douglas is the region’s Food Town, where holidaymakers will find a wide selection of independent butchers, delis, chocolatiers and cafes.
With the beach just meters from the front door, The Vital Spark is a great holiday destination for those who enjoy wild swimming and water sports like windsurfing and kayaking, or for children who want to rock-pool, paddle and build sandcastles. It would also be the ideal location for wildlife enthusiasts, with RSPB and WWT reserves only a short distance away. For guests with children in tow, the nearby Cocoa Bean Factory and farm parks of Mabie and Dalscone, in Dumfries, offer a fabulous day out.
