The conservation focused Old Melrose Estate is an idyllic riverside retreat that offers guests a peaceful and secluded spot to “Retreat to Nature” with woodland walks straight from the door, an Estate Tearooms for a refreshing cup of tea or slice of cake and stunning riverside trails and viewpoints all set on a magnificent, wooded peninsula teeming with nature and wildlife on the banks of the River Tweed.
This stunning heritage conversion consists of an open plan sitting / dining room / kitchen area, a bathroom with a walk in shower and a separate bedroom with a King size bed accessed by a spiral staircase.
The Folly’s peaceful and romantic setting is just part of its charm sitting as it does surrounded by woodland and the sound of birds singing in the trees. Inside, the interior has been refurbished and modernised throughout whilst traditional features such as the original tiled floor and pretty stained glass windows have been retained. The large stone fireplace with its wood-burning stove creates an inviting focal point and ensures cosiness throughout.
The kitchen area is neat and well thought out with a breakfast bar that provides dining just for two and a spiral staircase then leads upstairs to the mezzanine level where the cosy king size bedroom has been set out.
The decking area beside the house is the ideal place to make the most of the captivating river views. Relax with a glass of wine whilst watching the herons and kingfishers basking in the sun or the otters playing on the riverbank. With walks leading straight off into the surrounding Estate and a path from each cottage that heads down to the wonderful river, Old Melrose Estate is a wonderful place to relax and recharge your batteries and enjoy the delights of the Scottish Borders in both comfort and style. Guests are encouraged to explore the Estate's riverside and woodland walks, picnic by the river, feed the Estate's chickens, pigs and goats, wander round the Victorian walled garden or simply visit the tearooms.
What’s included: Bed linen and towels, gas central heating, wood-burning stove (plus logs), unlimited high speed WiFi, TV & DVD. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at an additional charge. No smoking. The house is reached by half a mile of country track that is negotiable by normal cars when driven slowly and with care.
The Folly was recently featured as one of The Times’ 25 Magical Woodland Escapes.
