Water sports are available in Kirkcudbright and also at near by Loch Ken which has an activity centre open to the public. Golf is widely available with a variety of courses from the hilly Kirkcudbright Course to the charming parkland course at Gatehouse of Fleet.
Kirkcudbright is the Capital of the Stewartry Area as the local surrounds are historically known. It is now an attractive harbour town with views over the Dee and is a thriving centre for arts and crafts. There are connections to the “Glasgow Boys and Girls” and this heritage runs through the town including private galleries and also the public Kirkcudbright Gallery which hosts a wide range of exhibitions. The town has a good range of local shops and also a swimming pool. The town is Beautifully located on the river, and still has a working harbour used by the local fishing fleet and a yacht marina.
