Old Mill is one of several beautiful stone buildings at Dod Mill. It started life in the 1700s as a grain watermill. Old Mill sits in a rural site with rivers with trout and salmon, herons, ducks, otters (if you're lucky!), a mill pond, sheep in the fields, woodland and wild flowers.
Old Mill is perfect for a couple seeking a romantic retreat or a bolthole from which to explore the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh. You'll find a large open-plan space with well-equipped kitchen, a large oak-topped dining table, and a beautiful living space by the woodburning stove. The interior styling is a contemporary take on a rural, historic building with details reflecting an industrial heritage. You'll find a Farrow & Ball colour palette, vintage Moroccan rug, handmade shutters, artisan crockery, and quirky touches like a vintage French balloon mould and antique chappati rolling pins.
Upstairs, there is a mezzanine bedroom with contemporary roll-top bath, king-size bed with super-comfy mattress and styling which continues the theme of the ground floor. The ensuite has a rainforest shower and spa style toiletries.
A back-door leads to a small garden area overlooking woodland and the Boondreigh River. There is an outdoor table and chairs for your use. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds of Dod Mill by following the mill lade to the mill pond and a small orchard (apples, cherries, plums and hazelnuts). Or cross the Boondreigh River for and head up into the Lammermuir Hills.
The property is located immediately off the A697, 7 miles south of Carfraemill and 4 miles from the Royal Burgh of Lauder.
