Askalong Cottage is a modern style self-catering chalet situated on the working croft of Midfield just a short walk or drive from Ollaberry on the North Mainland of Shetland. With a three star rating from VisitScotland Askalong Cottage offers all visitors a very good standard of self-catering accomodation. Sleeping up to five people and well equipped with all mod cons you will be sure to have everything that you need during your stay.

Askalong is situated just a little distance from Midfield Croft House in a secluded spot with a private garden area and from the cottage you can enjoy the stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside.
The property sleeps up to five people in three bedrooms two doubles and one single. The property has two bathrooms a spacious lounge and dining area and a fully equipped modern kitchen. The cottage is all on one level. Fresh bedding and towels are provided. There is plenty of parking spaces outside the cottage enough for 2-3 vehicles. A shed is available for guests for storing bikes and any outdoor gear. Free unlimited WIFI also provided.
You will find lots of Books, Maps and visitor guides about the Northmavine area and Shetland in the cottage and Bruce and Jean your hosts are more than happy to help with anything at all you might need during your stay.
For younger children a cot, a high chair and push chair are also available.
Getting to Shetland
Getting to Shetland is easy. You can fly with Loganair to Sumburgh airport or enjoy an overnight adventure to Lerwick on the Northlink Ferries.
Are we there yet? Not quite keep heading north.
From Sumburgh Airport in the south of mainland Shetland Askalong Cottage is about an hour and half drive and from Lerwick will take about 60 minutes. Well worth the journey as the drive takes you through some of the stunning scenery on Shetland. You won’t be disappointed and will see lots on the way.

North Mainland Shetland
Northmavine. Askalong is in an area known as Northmavine. You might be forgiven for thinking that Northmavine is an Island it is almost but not quite. Northmavine is the area to the North of Shetland and is joined to the Mainland at Mavis Grind where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea. Lots to see and do here. Walking in Northmavine.
Northmavine has some of the most spectacular scenery to be found in Shetland and some of the best coastal walking. Ronas Hill in Northmavine is Shetland's highest peak measuring 1475ft 450m. An abundance of wildlife is found here.
