Skye and the Scottish Highlands
In just three days we will show you Glen Coe, Loch Ness, the magical Isle of Skye, Culloden Moor and much, much more. A two-night stay with breakfast in guest house accommodation is included.
Day One
Edinburgh - Glen Coe - Isle of Skye
From Edinburgh we travel westwards to Glasgow where our fellow passengers will join us. Our tour takes us into the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park where we’ll stop in the little village of Luss. Take time out for a stroll to enjoy the spectacular views over Loch Lomond to the towering mass of Ben Lomond.
Next is the brooding expanse of Rannoch Moor which stretches as far as the eye can see. You'll be spellbound by the sinister beauty of Glen Coe when we stop to capture a souvenir photograph before making a scenic drive along the banks of Loch Leven.
We make a stop in Fort William which has a long military history and is a popular town with tourists due to its position overlooking Loch Linnhe. Look out for imposing Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain, as we journey through the magnificent scenery of the Great Glen.
As we travel through Glen Shiel look out for the graceful Five Sisters of Kintail, a massive bulk of five mountains, four of which are over 3,000 feet high.
A real highlight is picturesque Eilean Donan Castle. Here you have the chance to take photographs and explore the castle that featured in the film Highlander. Then it's time to cross the bridge and our home for the next two nights the magical Island of Skye!
Overnight: Isle of Skye (2 nights)
Day Two
Exploring Skye
Good morning! After a restful nights' sleep we awake in our island surroundings. It's a nice and easy day of touring, but you'll still see all the sights, such as the craggy Cuillin Mountains, the dramatic hills of the Quiraing and the outstandingly beautiful Trotternish Peninsula. There's plenty time off the bus so you can savour the islands unique atmosphere.
Later enjoy free time in the island’s main town, Portree. It’s a great place to pick up a hand-crafted souvenir of your island adventure. Why not take a walk down to the harbour to see the colourful houses that overlook the bay - it makes a great photo.
After a day of fabulous sights we return to our accommodation.
Day Three
Isle of Skye - Loch Ness - Edinburgh
After breakfast we bid farewell to the Isle of Skye and make our way back to the mainland.
After a scenic drive through the picturesque highland glens mysterious Loch Ness is our next treat. Why not enjoy a cruise on the loch to see hauntingly beautiful Urquhart Castle, whose ruins overlook the deepest section of the loch and are a popular vantage point with Nessie spotters!
It's a short drive to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands and sad Culloden Moor. It was here that Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite army was routed in a bloodly battle by the Government troops under the command of the Duke of Cumberland. The battle took place in 1746 and the consequences were so severe that it changed life in the Highlands forever.
Heading southwards we enter the stupendous scenery of the Cairngorms National Park then travel through the Grampian mountains. As we enter Highland Perthshire look out for whitewashed Blair Castle as we make for our last stop of the day in picturesque Pitlochry.
Our return journey to Edinburgh will take us through the ancient Kingdom of Fife then across the Forth Bridge.
If you are returning to Glasgow you will be dropped at Edinburgh Waverley railway station from where there is a frequent train service to Glasgow. The cost of your train ticket is included in the tour fare.
