Glasgow City Highlights
Join this 2 part tour for a morning walk around some key points of interest in the heart of the city followed by an afternoon drive around the outskirts of the city visiting many museums and galleries.
COVID Response Activity: We have made some adaptations to all of our tours to add a little more security for all of our guests during the pandemic. Private tours are the best way to limit your contact with other people and improve social distancing but additionally we provide individual hand sanitiser dispensers and disposable face masks, all guests will be required to sanitise hands at each point of entry to our vehicles. Our vehicle comes equipped with our own tables and chairs and packed lunches can be provided on request. Again the aim is to improve our ability for social distancing and maintain our small group "bubble". Our vehicle will be cleaned with disinfectant before and after every tour. We are certified "Good to Go" by the National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.
After pick up from your location of choice in the central belt we will head right into the heart of the city for a walking tour.
- Our first place of interest will be Glasgow Cathedral and the surrounding area including Provand's Lordship house the oldest house in Glasgow.
- From the Cathedral we will take a short but relatively steep walk up to the Glasgow Necropolis providing stunning panoramic views of the entire city.
- From the Necropolis we will stroll down High Street and down onto George Street. Here will will visit the Glasgow City Chambers (The location where Frank proposes to Claire in the famous TV program Outlander) and then move on the George Square with beautiful views of the older buildings in the center of the City.
- A short walk down Queen Street will take us to the Duke of Wellington statue and the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art.
- Passing through Royal Exchange Square we will come to Buchanan Street. This is a busy pedestrianized shopping area. As we walk up Buchanan Street we will see the Buchanan Galleries and a little further up the hill the statue of Donald Dewar, the first, first minister of Scotland before reaching the Royal Concert Hall.
From here it is a relatively short walk back to our starting location where we will drive out to the suburbs.
- We will visit Glasgow University and the Huntarian Museum just driving by on our way to the Kelvingrove Museum, to avoid parking congestion we will park across the road at the Kelvinhall. Kelvingrove is a fantastic museum with 22 halls and we could spend all day here but alas we will have to move on.
- From our parking point it is a relatively short drive to the Riverside Museum (a new location for the old transport museum) on the banks of the River Clyde.
- A walk or short drive will take us to the Clydeside Distillery where we can either just have a browse or do a distillery tour depending on time and energy levels at this point in the tour.
- Another short walk along the river will take us to the entertainment hub of Glasgow including the SECC, the armadillo, the Glasgow Hydro and on the other side of the river the Glasgow Science Centre and BBC Studios.
All of the museums and even the Cathedral on this tour are free entry. There is a charge for the distillery tour should you choose to do this.
