Managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, Glenmore Forest Park lies at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. It’s a great place to see what makes the National Park so special: forests that have been growing for centuries form a green sea around high, rounded mountains, and lochs with sandy beaches glitter in the sun.

Seek out some of the small but beautiful plants which are pinewood specialists, such as twinflower and one-flowered wintergreen, or just savour the fragrant carpet of needles beneath the ancient granny pines. Red squirrels, crossbills and crested tit can all be found and the forest is often alive with the sound of bird song – much of the forest park is a National Nature Reserve. Best of all, it’s easy to explore, with plenty of things to see and do whatever your mood.

At Glenmore Visitor Centre we can help you find your perfect place in the big glen – there’s a great café too. You could relax on Loch Morlich Beach, or hike into the hills from the Sugarbowl. From the visitor centre, an easy trail leads through ancient forest to a beautiful lochan at the foot of dramatic scree slopes. If you want some real action, Loch Morlich is great for canoeing, windsurfing or sailing. In winter, you could follow the trails on cross-country skis or try a snow shoe trek.

From the roundabout at the south end of Aviemore follow the signs for 'The Cairngorms' along the B970 for 6 miles. Glenmore Visitor Centre is easy to spot on the left-hand side of the road, just beyond Loch Morlich.

You can cycle here from Aviemore on the Old Logging Way; a superb, safe bike route that runs for 6 miles from Aviemore to the Visitor Centre. Buses between Aviemore and the Cairngorm Mountain Railway pass the visitor centre. You'll find details at Traveline Scotland.
