Inveraray Castle, Argyll and the Isle of Mull
Four to six day tour. Highlights include Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond, Inverary Castle, Oban, Isle of Mull, Isle of Iona option, Kerrera Island option, Glen Coe, Doune Castle.
Day One: Pick up in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling. Visit the medieval Stirling Castle voted as the UK’s most loved heritage attraction.
Sitting where the Highlands meets the Lowlands, Stirling Castle was continually fought over during the 14th Century Wars of Independence. Later, the 18th Century Jacobites by passed Stirling Castle on the long journey to Culloden.
Travel to the famous Loch Lomond and over the “Rest and Be Thankful” high pass to Inveraray to visit the fairy tale castle or the amazing Old Town Jail. Overnight Inveraray.
Day Two: Enjoy the stunning views along the west coast sea lochs with an option to take a ferry and pleasant hike (one hour) on the garden island of Kerrera to enjoy afternoon tea.
Explore the clifftop Gylen Castle looking over the Sound of Mull and the small islands of the Inner Hebrides. Get a real feel for the ancient times when the waterways were the true highways of Scotland.
Enjoy seeing the island’s feral goats, Spring lambs and hairy highland cattle wandering free along the trail before taking the short ferry back to the mainland.
Exploring these tiny Scottish islands get a sense of real communities past and present. Continue to the bustling ferry port of Oban with overnight here or option to take the one hour ferry to the Isle of Mull for overnight in the colourful capital of Tobermory.
Day Three: Take the one hour ferry over the Sound of Mull to the second largest island in the inner Hebrides, the Isle of Mull. One of Scotland’s most beautiful islands with many quiet sandy beaches, 13th century Duart castle, a scenic drive to the capital of Tobermory or take a breath taking drive to the short ferry over to Iona, the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland.
Day Four: Leave Mull on an early ferry to travel north along the sea lochs to Loch Linnhe and Glen Coe village.
Visit the monument to the infamous Glen Coe massacre then enjoy the stunning Glen Coe mountains as we drive through the pass and enjoy the solitude of the wild places. Enjoy Loch Lubnaig in the National Park before a last stop at the 14th century Doune Castle (Castle Leoch in “Outlander” and featuring also in Game of Thrones and Outlaw King.)
