4 Day private Inverness to Edinburgh tour
This is a PRIVATE BESPOKE 4 day tour. Join us on this wonderful Scottish tour and enjoy an authentic experience on your Journey through the Scotland.
A day of beautiful scenery and spectacular roads.
As we start our Inverness to Edinburgh tour, our first stop is Rogie Falls. Get up close to these impressive waterfalls on a new suspension bridge across the beautiful Black Water river.
Onward across the Highlands we travel west passing through the Torridon mountains. They are among the most dramatic and spectacular peaks in the British Isles and made of some of the oldest rocks in the world.
Next, we will be traveling up the mountain pass known as The Bealach-Na-Ba. This has to be one of my favourite roads in Scotland and of the greatest climbs in Britain. The Bealach-Na-Ba really takes the breath away.
Lunch will be at the stunning sea front village of Applecross. Situated on the shores of the Inner Sound, this gem of Scotland offers visitors the peace and tranquillity of a truly authentic Highland coastal village.
After lunch we will be traveling to the famous Eilean Donan Castle. Eilean Donan is recognised as one of the most iconic images of Scotland all over the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
Departing Eilean Donan, its not long before we will be crossing the sea to Skye. As we drive over the Skye bridge heading for our first nights destination of Portree, you will get your first view of this incredible island. This gem of an Island has some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland and over the next 2 day we will be showing you some of the best places.
Day 2
Firstly we will be moving north as we leave Portree and head round what is known as the Trottenish, extending north from Portree to its eventual end at Rubha Hunish, whilst following some of Scotland’s most striking landscapes.
First stop will be the Old Man Of Storr. The ‘Old Man‘ is a large pinnacle of rock that stands high and can be seen for miles around – one of Skye’s most iconic views.
As we move further north, we will have photos stops at Lealt Falls and Kilt Rock.
Next your eyes will seem like they are playing tricks on you as you marvel at the Quiraing. This is a place of exceptional and dramatic beauty.
Our next stop may grab you even more. It’s a quaint area known as the fairy glen. We love it for its extraordinary landscape which speaks only for itself.
From here we will be heading on to Neist Point which homes one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland. It’s on the most westerly point of Skye where you can view the rugged cliffs and lighthouse from walkway which is accessible to most.
We will then return to the town of Portree.
Day 3
We are destined to hop on a boat this morning from the harbour at Elgol. We have a choice here of sailing on the gentle Bella Jane, or a more exhilarating outing on the AquaExplore.
From here we will be heading to the Fairy Pools where we can stretch our legs and stroll alongside the waters.
The Talisker Distillery will be our next destination where you may be able to take a tour of the distillery and sample some of this fabulous malt whisky.
We would then love to show you the landmarked Talisker Bay where you can compare the view from here to that of your own bottle of whisky.
From here we will be heading back to Portree.
Day 4
After this we will continue heading south to Fort William and then further on to the mystifying Glencoe. On this part of the journey we will head deep into the mountainous region where we are surrounded by some jaw dropping scenery, creating the backdrop to the storyline of the traumatic tale of the Macdonald clan.
Continuing south from there, the road will lead us through Rannoch Moore an on to the village of Callander. From here, it will be a short journey onwards to see Doune Castle (Castle Leoch in Outlander) where we can stop to take some pictures.
The journey from here to Edinburgh is mainly motorway, however there’s a really attractive sculpture on this journey which we will visit. It’s the largest equine sculpture in the world, known as The Kelpies.
The journey onward from here is a short one to reach the capital city of Edinburgh where we must bid you farewell as our Inverness to Edinburgh tour comes to an end.

Heartland Travel - Tours of Scotland
We provide small group tours (no more than 16 passengers) of the Highlands, Isle of Skye and Loch Ness. Experience authentic Scotland with our small family business. We provide 2 separate scheduled tours - a 3 day tour to the Isle of Skye departing from St. Andrews, Dundee and Stirling, and a 4 day tour to the Isle of Skye and Inverness which departs from Edinburgh. We can also create bespoke tours for anyone who comes with the glimmer of an idea they want to make real. An exhaustive knowledge of Scotland also means that we are able to drop the itinerary for that unexpected magical detour.
