How to travel to and around Glasgow & The Clyde Valley
Getting to
Train
Glasgow and the Clyde Valley is well connected to the rest of the UK by rail. Glasgow has two main stations: Glasgow Central which connects the city to the south, and Glasgow Queen Street which serves routes to Edinburgh and further north.

Driving
Glasgow and the Clyde Valley is easily accessible by car. If travelling from Edinburgh, the most direct route is to the follow the M8. If travelling from England, follow the M74. You can quickly reach Stirling by driving along the M80 while the west coast of the country is connected via the M77.
One of the best ways to explore the scenery and attractions outside Glasgow is by driving the Clyde Valley Tourist Route. This 61km (68 mile) driving route follows a circular route from Abington to Hamilton.
Flying
Glasgow Airport is about 20 minutes from the city centre and Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is further south about 45 minutes away, with Edinburgh Airport close by as well. A regular bus service connects Glasgow Airport with the city centre and at Glasgow Prestwick there are regular rail services to the city from the airport train station.
Getting around
Walking
The Clyde Walkway takes you on a 65km (40 mile) journey through the Clyde Valley from Glasgow City Centre to New Lanark.
Cycling
National Cycle Network routes connect Glasgow and the surrounding areas of Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire. You can find more information on the Sustrans website.
Bus and coach
You can get around Glasgow easily using First Bus Glasgow which operates over 80 routes across the city.
Vehicle hire
There are plenty of opportunities to hire a car or other vehicle in and around Glasgow. The country’s biggest car hire company is Enterprise which has multiple locations spread throughout Glasgow and its suburbs as well as neighbouring towns such as Hamilton and Paisley. Car hire is also available at Glasgow International Airport.
