Lemreway is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages on the island. From the village there are wonderful views of the Shiant Islands and on a clear day views of Skye and the mainland.
It is almost equidistant from the North end of Lewis and the Southern end of Harris, making it a perfect base to explore with hillwalking, trout and sea fishing and birdwatching are among the pursuits that can be followed here.
There are dozens of brown trout lochs in the vicinity, most of which can be fished free of charge. Where necessary, permits can be purchased locally.
The beautiful landscapes in Lewis and Harris also make it ideal for painting holidays. There are wonderful almost deserted beaches in Lewis and Harris. Kittiwakes, shaq, gannet, fulmars, oyster catchers and curlews are some of the seabirds found here and on land merlins, buzzards, golden and sea eagles and corncrakes. On land there are red deer, mink, seals and otters. Many wild flowers grow here, including wild orchids.
The traditional crofting way of life is still practiced in the village – sheep farming and fishing – although this is becoming rarer now on the island.
